Pt. Shiv Kumar Shastri College of Agriculture and Research Station, Surgi, Rajnandgaon (SKS CARS) was established on
3rd August 2013
as a constituent college of Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) with the aim of providing high-quality agricultural education to the students of Chhattisgarh. The college is situated at village Surgi, around 15 kms away from headquarters. The Agriculture College, Rajnandgaon follows a holistic approach for the development of agriculture by integrating teaching, research and extension activities and assumes specific responsibility for improvement of rural life in totality.
The college is dedicated to educate and train the students in agriculture in order to enable them to achieve perceptible value addition to their technical knowledge, skills and positive attitude towards life along with enhanced employability at the time of passing out from the college. Admissions to undergraduate programme are made through Pre-Agriculture Test (PAT) conducted by CG VYPAM, Raipur of the State Government.
SKS CARS is carrying a four years undergraduate degree programme of B.Sc. (Ag) Hons. since 2013-14. Presently, total intake capacity of Under Graduate Degree Programme is 120 including 20% of ICAR nominees.
College was accredited (from 07-05-2019 to 28-03-2024) by National Agriculture Education Accreditation Board, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, India (Annexure I) Pg no. 46-49.
Complete infrastructures related to teaching, research, hostels, sports, recreation, cultural and other activities.
Adequate hostel facilities available for UG students (boys and girls), accommodating almost 80% students.
One experiential learning project on Mushroom production (sanctioned by ICAR), is in operation.
Library equipped with Wi-Fi and computer facility. 5000+ books, Kopykitab, Online Journals, and CeRA access available.
The college strives to offer high-quality education that equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in agriculture, essential for improvement of farming practices and rural development.
Research in agriculture is a key component. The institution focuses on local and regional agricultural challenges, including crop production, soil fertility, pest control and climate-resilient farming techniques.
Farmer training programs, field demonstrations, workshops and awareness campaigns on advanced farming techniques, pest management, water conservation and sustainable agriculture.
Significant emphasis on sustainable practices including organic farming, soil health management, water conservation and integrated pest management.
Contribute to rural development by improving agricultural productivity and offering educational opportunities to rural youth.
Training and guidance in agribusiness startups and value addition to agricultural products, boosting local rural economy and creating job opportunities.
